Jaroslav Flegr

Prof. Jaroslav Flegr, graduate of the Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague, studied cell biology and has devoted most of his scientific career to molecular phylogenetics and evolutionary parasitology. Currently, his research interests are focused on the effects of Toxoplasma gondii infection on human behaviour. Toxoplasmosis might increase the rate of traffic accidents by as much as one million collisions per year, and infection with T. gondii can also contribute to suicides and mental disorders.

Jaroslav Flegr is currently professor of biology at Charles University in Prague, and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Neuroendocrinology Letters. He is the author of the popular science book ‘Frozen evolution’, which aims to explain developments in evolutionary biology to the general public.
