VIB-KU Leuven Center for Cancer Biology, BE

Sarah-Maria Fendt is since 2013 a PI at VIB and Assistant Professor of Oncology at KU Leuven, Belgium. Sarah received her PhD degree, which was supported by the ETH BEST cluster, from ETH Zurich, Switzerland (supervisor: Prof. Uwe Sauer, Institute of Molecular Systems Biology). Sarah performed her postdoctoral research, which was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA (supervisor: Prof. Greg Stephanopoulos, Department of Chemical Engineering).

Sarah’s lab is specifically interested in elucidating general regulatory principles in metabolism, understanding cancer metabolism and its implications for novel therapeutic interventions, and revealing functional interconnection between metabolism and signaling. To perform novel research in her fields of interest her group exploits their expertise in metabolomics and fluxomics. The research of Sarah’s lab is currently funded by multiple (inter)national grants and industry, which include Odysseus II and Marie Curie funding, as well as a Conquer Cancer Now award from the Concern Foundation.
