VIB Seminar 2019

The 2019 edition of the VIB seminar will take place on 25-26 April in Veldhoven, the Netherlands and is organized for all VIB employees. The intention of this two-day event is to present and discuss the ongoing research within the institute on the one hand, and to stimulate networking and collaboration between the different research groups on the other hand.

This year’s theme of the VIB seminar is ‘Translational research’. To set the scene, Sofie Bekaert, Manager Translation Program, will introduce the VIB grand challenges program and subsequently give the word to the three teams that were selected after the first call in 2018. They will tell you more about their projects on the identification of new biomarkers for early detection and improved treatment of chronic liver diseases, for improved detection of primary immune deficiency diseases, and on the identification of predictive markers for targeted cancer immunotherapies.

During the parallel tracks several topics will be covered: ranging from a panel discussion with the core facility managers, over a session on gender balance (at work or during experimental setup), a workshop on ‘How to present’ to a talk on the hypes and hopes of artificial intelligence by Tony Belpaeme (UGent, BE & University of Plymouth, UK).

Due to its success last year, the session ‘VIB Scientists on Stage’ will give 8 VIB scientists the opportunity to give a plenary presentation on their research. All selected speakers will be trained by the Floor is Yours.

VIB is honored to close the first seminar day with a keynote talk by Vipula Shukla. She is senior program manager Agriculture at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Day 2 is focused primarily on teambuilding and getting to know colleagues from other centers, labs and HQ, with Eindhoven city center as the main playing field.

Interested to meet your colleagues in Veldhoven? Sign up soon to reserve your spot!

VIB Scientists on Stage

Why participate?
This is a unique opportunity to present your work to more than 800 colleagues. Prior to the seminar, you will be trained by professionals to perform and make your presentation accessible to the entire audience. This training course may be very valuable for future presentations and your professional career.

How to submit?
Submissions are closed. All submissions will be reviewed by the OC and the 6 selected speakers – preferably a mix of junior and more senior scientists - will be informed mid-February.Obligated training moments “The Floor is Yours”:
