Biography

Doris Meder has more than 12 years experience of creating, managing and administering life science support structures in international environments in Europe. Her mission is to facilitate the promotion of excellent research by developing and implementing new approaches to science management that are tailored towards the researchers’ needs.

In her current role as Head of Science and Operations at the Berlin Institute of Health (bihealth.org), a translational research center, she and her team design and implement focus areas and governance models for the different translational research programs and platforms, incentivise and coordinate joint research initiatives between clinicians and basic scientists and design and build up core facilities and scientific services according to the researchers needs. At the same time, Doris Meder is President of the “Core for Life Association for the Advancement of Life Sciences Through Core Facilities” (coreforlife.eu), an excellence alliance of core facilities in Europe.

Doris Meder is a biochemist by training and did her PhD on mechanisms of cell polarity in epithelial cells with Kai Simons. Before joining the BIH in 2017, she worked in grant management at the ETH Zurich, technology transfer and scientific coordination at the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden (MPI-CBG), set up and managed the Core Facilities Program of the Centre of Genomics Regulation in Barcelona (CRG), ran the Office of the Managing Director at MPI-CBG and managed the establishment of the Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD).
