Joachim Goedhart

Universiteit van Amsterdam, NL
Biography

Joachim Goedhart is affiliated with the section of Molecular Cytology and the van Leeuwenhoek Centre for Advanced microscopy at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Goedhart completed his PhD in 2001 at Wageningen University. After a post-doc of 3 years at the University of Amsterdam he was appointed as an assistant professor.
His research focusses on the development and characterization of fluorescent proteins which are used as building blocks for a variety of genetically encoded biosensors. The biosensors are used to examine the response of individual cells to external stimuli, most notably those transduced by G-protein coupled receptors. One of the current research topics is to understand how cell morphology is controled by spatiotemporal aspects of G-protein activity.
