Kevin Smith is a researcher with the Biozentrum at the University of Basel. He previously worked with the Light Microscopy and Screening Center at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zürich). He works on data analysis and machine learning tools for high content screening and is also involved in ongoing research projects funded by SystemsX.ch.
Smith's research interests include classical computer vision problems including tracking, detection, segmentation and feature design, as well as problems specific to microscopic imagery including tree reconstruction, denoising, registration and alignment. His other interests go in the direction of developing active learning methods to speed up and improve classification on large data sets. He works with a variety of microscopy methods including brightfield, 2-photon, phase contrast, confocal, and electron microscopy.
