Leander Meuris did his studies and PhD at Ghent University, Belgium. During his PhD in the Nico Callewaert lab, he developed new strains of mammalian cell lines (HEK) for the production of biopharmaceuticals, specifically focusing on solving the issue of glycosylation heterogeneity. After his PhD he went on to teach life sciences subjects at the Artesis Plantijn University College in Antwerp, Belgium and later switched to teaching at Ghent University. After a while he also picked up research again and now works on liver glycomics and cancer diagnostics/therapeutics development, as well as running service projects involving glycan analytics.
