Biography

An all- round HR professional with over 30 years of experience in Human Resources in a variety of organizations of which the last 28 years at VIB. She studied industrial and organizational psychology at the university in Leuven. Right after her graduation as master, she moved abroad for a period of 8 years. At SHELL petroleum she was trainer and training course developer for communication courses aimed at the local HR staff. Back in Belgium she consecutively worked as a HR consultant, Human resources manager in production and distribution companies and moved to VIB in December 1995. At VIB she was one of the first employees, with the responsibility to develop a department able to tackle all aspects of the human resources function within the institute in close collaboration with the 5 partner universities. To date the human resources team, consisting of 11 people, is responsible for:

  • Pay roll , contracts, insurances for about 670 employees
  • Development of training programs for all levels
  • Recruitment
  • Liaison between the university departments and VIB HQ for all HR related matters
  • International staff (recruitment and integration)
  • Development of HR related policies
  • Correct implementation of social law

Marijke wil retire as from 1 May 2024 and will be succeeded by Veerle Bogaert, who started as new HR director at VIB on 2nd April 2024.
