Sophie Steeland

Sophie Steeland is a pharmacist by training who is passionate about biotechnology. After her studies, she pursued a PhD at the VIB in the lab of Claude Libert and Roosmarijn Vandenbroucke. Her main focus was the development of Nanobodies targeting TNF receptor 1, and its preclinical development in inflammatory disorders ranging from sepsis to multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease, with a focus on the brain and the choroid plexus more specifically. After her PhD, she collaborated in a Horizon2020 project to identify brain-targeting Nanobodies to facilitate drug delivery into the brain. This baggage of knowledge and experience helped her when she joined the argonauts of argenx as clinical scientist on their lead asset efgartigimod in myasthenia gravis. This function now evolved into scientific lead of myasthenia gravis program.
