Tobias joined Cambridge Epigenetix in 2012 and was tasked with developing, trialling and commercialising the TrueMethyl oxidative bisulfite technology – the method for the quantification of 5-methylcytosine and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine and single base resolution. Tobias is now responsible for building and leading a multidisciplinary team of research scientists developing new tools for the epigenetics research community. Prior to joining Cambridge Epigenetix, Tobias held positions at Pacific Biosciences (EU FAS Manager) responsible for the installation and support of the European PacBio RS install base, Illumina (WTSI Application Scientist for Genome Analyser) and Solexa (R&D Biochemist) responsible for development and optimisation of SBS sequencing chemistries, cluster generation and co-invention of Illumina’s paired-end sequencing methodology. Tobias holds a degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Molecular Enzymology from the University of Edinburgh and has broad research and commercial experience of next generation sequencing.
