2022 VIB Conferences preview

18 January 2022

After a year where more than 4000 of you joined a virtual, hybrid or live VIB conference we’re excited to announce the upcoming 2022 program. We hope we can welcome you (again) at an upcoming conferences.

Applied Bioinformatics in Life Sciences (4th edition)

10-11 March, Leuven

We start of the year on 10-11 March with the fourth edition of our conference on bioinformatics: Applied Bioinformatics in Life Sciences (4th edition).

Inspired by the sold-out editions in 2016, 2018, and 2020, we’re organizing this fourth edition to highlight recent developments in bioinformatics research, and to showcase its impact in medical, agricultural, and biotechnological research.

Nationally and internationally renowned speakers will shed light on the future perspectives of their research in the following plenary sessions:

  • Image analysis
  • Single cell analysis
  • Proteomics and metabolomics
  • Data integration

Speakers will include Julio Saez-Rodriguez (Heidelberg University, DE), Stephanie Hicks (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, US) and many more. There are also 6 slots for selected talks and the best poster will win the ABLS22 Poster Prize.

Next-Generation Protein Analysis and Detection (4th edition)

30-31 May, Ghent

With the first three editions (organized in 2015, 2017 & 2019) as a foundation, this VIB conference ‘Next-Generation Protein Analysis and Detection’ is becoming a benchmark in the field.

During this 4th edition participants will be able to discover the latest research developments from renowned academic presenters, while also coming into contact with disruptive technology platforms from industry. Over 30 speakers will present their work in sessions focusing on:

  • Single cell and spatial proteomics
  • Computational proteomics
  • Clinical proteomics
  • Single molecule peptide analysis
  • Biophysical characterization
  • Structural proteomics

Speakers will include Cecilia Lindskog Bergström (Uppsala University, SE), Markus Ralser (The Francis Crick Institute, UK) and many more. There are also 4 slots for selected talks and the best poster will win the NGPAD22 Poster Prize.

Recent insights into Immuno-Oncology

16-17 June, Leuven

This upcoming conference brings together leaders with young investigators engaged in the fields of Immuno-Oncology, immunometabolism and cellular therapies, with the main scope of sharing new insights into the immune response to tumors and tackle unresolved questions.

We anticipate that the conference will provide a perfect forum to stimulate discussion and interaction among participants, clinicians and experts of the burgeoning and rapidly evolving field of Immuno-Oncology.

The program brings together world recognized experts who will present their recent work in sessions focused on:

  • Immunometabolism
  • Cross talk myeloid cells
  • Clinical or translational
  • T Cell/ Immunotherapy
  • Precision Immuno-Oncology
  • Immune escape

Speakers include Hongbo Chi (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, US), Maria Rescigno (Humanitas University, IT) and many more. There are four slots for selected talks and the best poster presentation will win the Nature Poster Prize.

The Leuven Protein Aggregation Meeting

21-23 September, Leuven

This small and focused meeting is bringing together inspiring speakers from around the world to talk about some of the most exciting research in the protein aggregation field. With less than 150 participants in an informal setting, there will be ample opportunity for discussion and interaction among all participants.

Poster sessions and blitzes are included in the program to allow contributions from as many attendees as possible.

Speakers include Sheena E Radford (University of Leeds, UK), Rubén Fernández-Busnadiego (University of Göttingen, DE) and many more. There are slots for selected talks and the two best poster presentations will win the ProAgg22 Poster Prize.

Type 2 Immunity in Homeostasis and Disease (2nd edition)

12-13 December 2022, Ghent

After the Cell-VIB event on Type 2 Immunity organized in Bruges in December 2014, VIB launched the Type 2 Immunity in Homeostasis and Disease series in February 2019. Now, VIB is very pleased to organize the 2nd edition of that event. This conference will be organized in the Bijloke in Ghent, a 13th century architectural marvel in the historic centre of Ghent.

This conference will not only focus on new effector and regulatory mechanisms of the type 2 immune response. It will also offer a number of talks taking a broader look on type 2 immunity, dealing with such topics as type 2 immunity in homeostasis, growth and repair, metabolism, neuro-immune interactions and cancer. Understanding these alternative roles for type 2 immunity will be important to address the benefits and potential pitfalls of long-term inhibition of type 2 immunity by biologicals and could elucidate new therapeutic pathways for very common diseases like asthma, obesity, diabetes and cancer.
