Dr. Simon E. Hufton is a Biochemist and has over 25 years experience in therapeutic monoclonal antibody discovery and development. In 1995 he joined the group of Professor Hennie Hoogenboom, one of the pioneers in recombinant antibody technology, at the University Hospital Maastricht, Netherlands, and subsequently joined a spin out company, Target Quest B.V. At Target Quest he worked on human single domain antibodies and yeast display technology including novel approaches to affinity mature Fab antibody fragments using yeast mating and recombination. In 2000 he was appointed Director of Research at Dyax Corp, Liege, Belgium where he led several therapeutic antibody discovery and optimisation projects. In 2005 he moved to Wyeth (Dublin, Ireland) as Director of Research and set up a protein optimisation group. At Wyeth he was also co-project lead for a anti TNFα specific nanobody up to IND filing. In 2009 he returned to the UK and joined the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) where he established a group working on the structure-function of monoclonal antibodies and antibody fragments with a particular interest in their quality, safety, efficacy and delivery.
